Settings and appearance

Open Settings from the gear in the header to pick a theme, calm the interface, and tune notifications. Every choice applies instantly and, when you are signed in, follows you across devices.

Opening Settings

Every page's header ends with a settings gear button, which replaced the old light and dark slider. Click it to open the Settings window.

Settings apply instantly, so there is no Save button. Close the window with the X, the Escape key, or a click outside of it.

  1. 1Click the settings gear at the end of any page header.
  2. 2Change any setting and watch it apply right away.
  3. 3Close the window with the X, Escape, or a click outside it.

How your settings sync

When you are signed in, everything in Settings is saved to your account and follows you across devices. Change the theme on your desktop, and your laptop picks it up the next time it loads a page.

Each device also keeps a local copy, so your theme still applies instantly, before the page draws. If you are not signed in, for example on the login page, settings are device-local only. They will sync to your account the next time you change them while signed in.

Themes

Twelve themes are available, six light and six dark. The light themes are Light (the clean, bright default), Paper (warm cream with bronze and amber accents), Mist (cool blue-grey with deep sea-blue accents), Sage (soft sage green with forest and teal accents), Lavender (gentle lilac with violet and rose accents), and Blossom (soft blush pink with rose and violet accents).

The dark themes are Dark (calm graphite with soft violet accents), Midnight (deep navy with a neon purple and cyan glow), Ocean (deep-sea teal with aqua accents), Ember (warm charcoal with amber glow), Forest (deep evergreen with emerald accents), and Plum (dark aubergine with magenta glow).

Each card shows a small preview of the theme's background, panel, and accent colors, and the selected theme is outlined with a check mark. Theme-aware artwork, such as the bell icon and signature ink, follows the theme's light or dark mode automatically. The saved theme is applied before the page draws, so there is no flash of the wrong theme on load, and printing always uses a white, ink-friendly style regardless of theme.

  1. 1Open Settings and find the theme cards.
  2. 2Click a theme card to apply it immediately, everywhere in the app.
  3. 3Look for the check mark outline to confirm which theme is active.

Appearance switches

Reduce transparency replaces the frosted-glass panels with solid ones and turns off background blur. It is useful if you find the translucency hard to read, or on slower devices where blur costs performance.

Reduce motion turns off hover lifts, slides, and other animations. The app also honors your operating system's reduce motion setting automatically, so this switch lets you calm the interface without changing the setting for your whole device.

Notifications

These rows appear when you are signed in. Unread count badge shows or hides the red unread counter on the notification bell. The bell itself stays, and only the badge is affected. Grievance unread messages, when turned off, excludes unread grievance discussion counts from the bell's list and badge, leaving only app-wide notices.

Popup duration sets how long toast popups, such as the "Saved." or error cards in the top-right corner, stay on screen. Choose Short (2.5s), Normal (5s), Long (10s), or Until dismissed, where popups stay until you click their X.

Troubleshooting

If your theme keeps resetting while you are signed in, your account's saved settings win on every page load, so re-pick the theme while signed in and it will stick everywhere. If a change will not save, a popup reading "Couldn't sync settings to your account" means the save did not reach the server, so check your connection and change the setting again.

If a device shows old settings, account settings are picked up on page load, so reload the page or navigate anywhere and it catches up. If a signature pad looks invisible, switch to a theme of the opposite brightness, since the ink color follows the theme's light or dark mode, then switch back. If animations are still playing with Reduce motion on, a hard refresh picks up the preference on pages that were already open in other tabs.
